HYPOTHESIS OF THE PROJECT

The transfection of the mesenchymal stem cells  with EWS-FLi1, the characteristic gene fusion  of the Ewing sarcoma  (ES) is not enough to induce a full tumourgenicity. There must be other factors that act  before or after the presence of translocation in the cells of origin, and that explain the appearance of the ES. It is possible that these factors are also related to the determination of the resistance of some ES to conventional therapies.

TARGET OF THE PROJECT

1. Study of the molecular events prior to the translocation in the Ewing sarcoma.

2. Characterisation of the lines of human mesenchymal stem cells of donor/patient, transfected with a inducible model of the translocation.

3. Identification of the propagation of stem cells of ES and of the marked characteristic.
